DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team dropped to 11-6 on the season with a 5-2 loss to visiting Winthrop (7-5) at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Tuesday. Senior Alex Hackett (Surrey, England) was the lone double winner on the day for the Hatters.
Stetson got off to a good start by taking the doubles point thanks to wins on Courts 2 and 3 from the Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway)/Chris Swanteson (Vaxjo, Sweden) and Hackett/Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) pairings, but the Eagles would dominate the singles portion to the tune of five wins in six matches to walk away with a 5-2 win. Hackett was the only Hatter to get a singles win, taking down Guy Kubi 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Court 4.
The Hatters host 29th-ranked Mississippi at 9 a.m. Thursday before hosting A-Sun rival Lipscomb at 4 p.m. later that day. Live scoring will be available at GoHatters.com for the Lipscomb match only.
