Jacksonville, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team finished the Atlantic Sun Conference and road portions of its schedule with a 5-2 win at Jacksonville on Saturday, improving to 17-9 overall and 6-4 in the A-Sun in the process. The Hatters will await word on their seed for the upcoming conference tournament, which they will host at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center April 14-16.
Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway)/Chris Swanteson (Vaxjo, Sweden) and Alex Hackett (Surrey, England)/Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) were the winning doubles combinations for Stetson as the Hatters claimed the doubles point and went ahead 1-0 early. The former won 8-4 on Court 1 and the latter 8-6 on Court 3.
The host Dolphins made Stetson work overtime for its last several points as the four singles matches that ended in two sets were split 2-2. Junior Cesare Gallo (Portogruaro, Italy) and Riseng were relatively quick winners for the Hatters, but it was not until Hackett put away Larry Condez 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 on Court 4 that the victory was assured. Stene concluded matters with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at the top of the lineup against Fernando Bano Lopez.
Stetson concludes the 2011 regular season at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Flagler. Live scoring will be available at GoHatters.com as it will be Senior Day for Hackett, Swanteson and Gallo, who is graduating early.
