Stetson Falls 2-0 at FAU

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Stetson women's soccer team dropped to 1-1-0 on the season with a 2-0 loss at Florida Atlantic (2-0-0) in its road opener on Sunday. Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Seletos (New Port Richey, Fla.) made a career-high seven saves in defeat.

Jesse Shugg scored in the 19th minute for the Owls off a cross from Brittney Nash; Nash would add an insurance goal of her own in the second half, heading in Meghan Brown's free kick to the far post in the 66th minute.

Stetson's best chance to get on the scoreboard came very late in the 88th minute when a foul and resulting yellow card on FAU gave sophomore forward Alyssa Welsh (Edison, N.J.) a penalty kick opportunity, the second for the Hatters in as many matches in 2011. However, FAU goalkeeper Ashley Lantes made the save, one of three on the day and preserved her shutout victory.

The Owls out-shot the Hatters 13-8 with Welsh and senior midfielder Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) leading Stetson with two shots apiece.

The Hatters return to action at 6:00 pm Saturday, August 27 at Embry-Riddle. Live Stats will be available at GoHatters.com.
