West Point, N.Y. - The Stetson women's soccer team (1-3) suffered its third straight loss with a 4-1 setback to Colgate in the opener of the Black Knight Classic Friday afternoon at the United States Military Academy. Freshman forward Katie O'Kennedy (Oviedo, Fla.) scored her second goal of the season for the Hatters.
O'Kennedy's goal in the 25th minute tied the match at 1-1, erasing an early Raider lead on Danielle Wessler's 12th minute score. Halftime arrived with the match still tied at one goal apiece.
An incident just after halftime resulted in Stetson's Jennifer Raneri and Colgate's Jillian Kinter both being sent off with red cards, creating a 10-on-10 situation the rest of the way. It would be Colgate that took advantage of the extra field space, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 54th minute (Jenna Gibney) and getting two insurance scores from Jenna Raepple just 40 seconds apart in the 76th minute to salt the game away.
Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Seletos (New Port Richey, Fla.) made six saves for the Hatters. Stetson will be back in action at 2:00 pm Sunday taking on tournament host Army. A link to Live Stats is available at GoHatters.com.
