Cable Leads Hatters in Season-Opening UCF Tourney

A-Sun Leader North Florida Defeats Hatters 6-1

DeLand, Fla. - Atlantic Sun Conference-leading North Florida (10-4, 5-0 Atlantic Sun) handed the Stetson women's tennis team its first home loss of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating the Hatters 6-1 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Stetson dropped to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in A-Sun action.

The Ospreys took all three doubles matches, including nationally 78th-ranked Aline Berkenbrock and Lorena Aviles taking an 8-2 decision from Stetson junior Sara Lazarevic (Calgary, Alta.) and sophomore MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell (Asheville, N.C.).

Sophomore Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.) was the only singles winner for the Hatters, defeating Rebecca Pereira 6-2, 6-2 on Court 5.

"We faced a strong team today in UNF," Stetson Associate Head Coach Chastity Bradley said. "We fought very hard in some of the second sets of the singles matches. There are several things that we will work on to get better for the rest of the season; I know our team will continue to make improvements."

Stetson will travel to UCF for a 4:00 pm match Wednesday, April 4.
