Hatters Drop Lipscomb in Regular Season Finale

Nashville, Tenn. - The Stetson women's tennis team (13-6, 6-3 A-Sun) wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with a 5-2 win at A-Sun foe Lipscomb (4-15, 1-8 A-Sun). With the victory, the Hatters locked in the #4 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun Conference Championships next weekend in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Although they dropped one of the three doubles matches, the Hatters secured decisive 8-2 wins on Courts 2 and 3 to go up 1-0 in the match. Sophomore Diana Bukajeva and junior Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) beat Danielle Hansen and Elizabeth Keevil on Court 2 while sophomore Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.) and senior Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) put away Alyssa Bellini and Samantha Bowman 8-2 on Court 3.

Stetson secured its necessary three singles points with little more than minimum difficulty as Cable beat Hansen 6-1, 6-0 on Court 5, Miller defeated Bowman 6-1, 6-1 on Court 6 and Bukajeva dropped Jenny Borck 6-3, 6-1 on Court 3. Gunning had to work hard in the first set but once victorious, rolled to a straight set win on Court 1, sinking Bellini 7-5, 6-1.

The Hatters will meet up with fifth-seeded Kennesaw State on Friday, April 20 at a time to be determined in the A-Sun quarterfinals. ETSU will host the tournament at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center; the host Lady Bucs are the #2 seed behind regular season champion North Florida. The other quarterfinal match will feature #3 FGCU vs. #6 Jacksonville.

Stetson beat Kennesaw State 4-3 in its conference opener on March 3; if the Hatters repeat the feat they will draw UNF in Saturday's semifinal round. Stetson women's tennis has reached the A-Sun semifinals in each of the last seven seasons.
