Stetson
freshman Simon Julin was honored with a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis
Association's (ITA) Southeast Regional Rankings on January 3. He became the first player in Stetson history
to be ranked regionally after just one semester of competition.
"Simon had a great fall and it is well deserved,"
Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said of the accolades. "Unfortunately he missed our first
tournament while waiting to be cleared by the NCAA eligibility center. I believe that he would have made it into the
national rankings if he could have played our full schedule of events.
"When you become the first to accomplish anything in
program history, it is significant," Pilote continued. "We have had numerous nationally and
regionally ranked players in the past but none after their first semester of
action."
Julin went 6-1 this fall in his first collegiate action, and
was recognized for his play with a ranking of 14 in the Southeast. The freshman was joined on the list of 20 by
Atlantic Sun Conference competitor Moritz Buerchner of North Florida.
Julin and the Stetson men's tennis team begins play in 2013
at home against St. John's on January 24.
