The Stetson men's basketball team (9-12, 6-4) will attempt
to get back on its winning ways on Saturday after losing a pair of road tilts
over the past week. The Hatters travel
back to Jacksonville to take on North Florida (8-15, 3-7) in a game scheduled
for 4:30 p.m.
"Our effort kept us in the game at Jacksonville," Stetson
head coach Casey Alexander said on Friday. "But as we learned in that game, we
will have to play well to beat UNF."
Since topping Stetson 90-74 back on Jan. 5 in DeLand, the
Ospreys have dropped six of their last seven games. North Florida is riding a four-game losing
streak, including Thursday's 89-75 loss to Florida Gulf Coast, but the Ospreys
can lean on the fact that their win over Stetson early in January wasn't all
that close.
"We have great respect for UNF and know there is a real
challenge ahead of us," Alexander said. "They
are much better than their record indicates, and they hammered us on our own home
floor."
UNF sharpshooter Parker Smith shot 9-for-10 from beyond the
arc en route to a 33-point night that made it virtually impossible for Stetson
to stay in the game earlier in the season.
Since then, a number of teams in the Atlantic Sun have found ways to slow
the senior guard down, but it will be no easy task.
"We learned first-hand how dangerous Parker Smith can be,
but we can't lose sight of the fact that they are a complete offensive team,"
Alexander said. "Their post players have
had huge numbers against us and Wilson is the guy that makes it all go."
Stetson holds a 10-6 advantage against North Florida in the
all-time series, and has won five of the seven contests held in Jacksonville,
but the Ospreys have come out on top in three out of the last four tilts.
