The Stetson men's basketball team (10-14, 7-6) will head on
the road for the final time of the 2012-13 regular season this weekend,
beginning with a Thursday night contest at Lipscomb (9-14, 4-8) on ESPN3. The Hatters and the Bisons will square off at
7:30 p.m. ET at Allen Arena.
Stetson remains tied with USC Upstate and Jacksonville for
third place in the Atlantic Sun Conference, but the Hatters have lost four of
their last five games, as well has their last three road contests.
"Our emphasis for the last couple of weeks has been to be
more efficient on offense," Stetson head coach Casey Alexander said. "Taking care of the basketball has to be our
priority on that end. We're playing hard
enough and well enough in other areas, but we've given games away by making so
many unforced errors."
The Hatters have turned the ball over at least 17 times in
each of their last five games, leading to a 1-4 mark during the stretch. The last time Stetson took care of the ball
efficiently was Jan. 19, in an 85-69 home victory over Lipscomb. It was the fifth straight victory for
Stetson, and put the team in first place in the league at 6-2.
"I'll be surprised if we don't see a very confident Lipscomb
team Thursday night," Alexander said. "They
played very well their last time out against NKU and I'm sure they've followed
that up with a spirited week of practice."
The Bisons topped the Norse 76-58 on Feb. 8, snapping a
three-game losing skid, and improving to 4-8 in conference play. Lipscomb is currently ninth in the A-Sun
standings, but has played well at home, earning six of its nine total victories
at Allen Arena. Deonte Alexander, who
scored 23 points against Stetson back on Jan. 19, continues to lead the Bisons
in scoring at a mark of 13.0 points per game.
"He's really scoring the ball well and with great
versatility," Coach Alexander said of Deonte Alexander. "His ability to make threes is his greatest
strength, but he's also scoring in transition and in their motion. They are at their best when he is playing
well."
