The Stetson women's tennis team (3-3) dropped their second
consecutive match on Monday afternoon, losing to Pennsylvania (6-2) by a score
of 6-1 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
In doubles, Penn took the first two matches to secure the
point and gain a 1-0 lead. The duo of freshman Andrea Crespo and senior Sara
Lazarevic were defeated by Sol Eskenazi and Sony Latycheva by a score of 8-1.
Junior Diana Bukajeva and senior Jen Miller lost their match to Stephanie Do
and Alex Ion by a score of 8-2 to give the Quakers the point.
Freshman Eveline Lepinay and junior Lindsey Cable were
leading their doubles match 4-1 against Jules Rodin and Jaime Yapp-Shing before
the match was stopped due to Penn winning the first two.
In singles, Penn was able to take five out of the six
matches on the day. At the number two singles position, Crespo lost her match,
falling to Do by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Cable then dropped her match, falling to
Latycheva 7-5, 6-0. The Quakers then secured the victory when Eskenazi defeated
Lazarevic 6-1, 6-3.
Miller got Stetson on the board with her 6-2, 6-1 victory
over Ion at number five singles. At number six singles, Lepinay was defeated by
Katherine Jania, 6-4, 6-4. The final match of the day went to a third set
tiebreak, with Yapp-Shing defeating senior Clarke Tatje 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (11).
Stetson heads on the road this week, taking a Spring Break
trip to California for a pair of matches. The Hatters play Cal State Fullerton
on March 7 at 5:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. PT) and Cal State Northridge at 4:30 p.m.
(1:30 p.m. PT).
Match Notes: Stetson plays one more Ivy League opponent this
season (Harvard 3/19) ... Stetson last lost consecutive non-conference matches in
2009.
