Lax Falls Short Against Campbell on Friday

Seven different Hatters scored, but the Stetson lacrosse team (0-6) fell short against Campbell (2-2), losing by a score of 17-7 on Friday at the Athletic Training Center.

Stetson certainly excelled in one stage of the game on Friday. The Hatters built on their season-best 10 draw controls on Tuesday with another 17 against the Camels.  Stetson finished with 17 to Campbell's nine in the game.

The Hatters, however, were outshot 33-18, and the Camels picked up 25 ground balls to Stetson's 13.  Campbell generated four free position shots, and connected on three of them, while the Hatters only managed one unsuccessful attempt.

Stetson scored the first goal of the game yet again as freshman Danielle Horgan scored unassisted just 15 seconds into play.  After a pair of Camel goals, sophomore Samantha Akl tied the game at 2-2 with another unassisted Stetson score just less than six minutes into the contest.

Campbell then scored 12 out of the next 13 goals in the game, through halftime, to take a 14-3 lead with 18:06 to play in the game.  Stetson freshman Melanie Fredericks scored the lone Hatter goal during the stretch, finishing off a Maylis Broderick assist.

The Hatters finished the game strong, outscoring Campbell 4-3 in the final 15 minutes of play.  Freshman Mary Kate O'Sullivan started the run off with a goal assisted by freshman Paige Levesque.  Freshmen Sarah Connolly, Broderick, and Mallory Tluchowski also scored during the stretch.

Horgan led Stetson with five shots, while O'Sullivan and Kelsey Gilbert totaled two ground balls each in the loss.  Broderick won four draw controls, while O'Sullivan chipped in with three.  Whitney Meyers and Caili Guilday split time in goal once again.  The former made seven saves in 37 minutes, and the latter totaled three saves in 23 minutes.

Stetson will next play its seventh straight home game to start the season.  The Hatters welcome Bryant to DeLand on Wednesday, March 13 before heading out on the road for the first time to take on Florida in Gainesville.
