WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Junior Eveline Lepinay and freshman Alizee Michaud each won singles titles in their respective flights as Stetson concluded a successful weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational.
"It was an outstanding team performance this weekend against a very strong field,” aid Stetson head coach Pierre Pilote. “Alizee played a great match today against an established professional player currently ranked 615 on the WTA tour. The level of play was outstanding from both players. Eveline battled back, as she always does, to defeat a tenacious opponent. She played better and better as the match progressed.”
Michaud defeated Borislava Botusharova, a fellow freshman from Old Dominion, winning 6-3 and 6-4. Botusharova was ranked by the ITA as the No. 6 freshman in the country entering the 2014-15 season, and had only dropped seven games total in her previous three matches prior to the finals.
Lepinay dropped the first set and was forced to rally before knocking off Natsuko Takayanagi of UNC Charlotte 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman Ashley Dean won her fifth-place match in the B Singles Flight, defeating Western Kentucky's Andreanna Christopoulou (6-4, 6-7, 6-4). Fellow freshman Arijana Korac was also victorious in a consolation match on Sunday.
Maja Salibasic was defeated in her third-place match in the G Singles Flight, falling to Davidson's Ally Sexton, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4
