Three Hatters Named A-Sun All-Academic

Three Stetson Hatters were named to the Atlantic Sun Conference's Women's Soccer All-Academic Team, the league office announced today. Senior Danielle Hurme, redshirt freshman Annette Morton and sophomore Adrianna Suarez were voted to the 11-woman team by league Sports Information Directors.

Hurme is honored for the third straight year, while Morton and Suarez earn a spot on the team for the first time.

“I'm so happy for, and proud of, Dani, Adrianna and Annette,” said Stetson head coach Manoj Khettry. “For Dani, this is her third successive year being named to the Academic All-Conference Team and she remains as ambitious as ever with regard to her course-work. She has proven to be a great role-model for our younger players by taking her school work seriously.”

A four-year letter winner, Hurme carries a 3.94 grade-point average in Finance. The 2013 A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's soccer, Hurme has two goals and three assists this season while playing in 15 games.

Morton is a Digital Arts major with a 3.96 GPA. In 17 games, Morton has scored three goals, including a pair in the second half at NJIT.

Suarez also carries a 3.96 grade-point average as a Discovery major. She is second on the team in both goals (5) and points (13).

“For Adrianna and Annette, this is a great first step to being recognized for their diligence and rigor in the classroom and their consistency on the field, as both have been instrumental in our team's on-field success this year. But to be honest, our entire team takes their academic course work very seriously and it is an integral part of what we preach in our program: to pursue excellence and achievement on the field and in the classroom.”

It's been a banner year for the Hatters on the field, as Stetson enters the post-season having already captured its first winning season since 2009. But he's most pleased with the work of his team in the classroom.

“In each of the three years I have been here, we've been fortunate to have at least two players recognized as Academic All-Conference, and this is the first time we have had three named to the team. I hope that having three players named yearly is another trend we can continue as we build upon our team culture.”

The Hatters open A-Sun Tournament play, 2 p.m., Friday at Kennesaw State.
