Stetson women's soccer continues its quest for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament championship on Friday when the fifth-seeded Hatters face tournament host and regular-season champ FGCU in the semifinal round, 7 p.m., Friday in Fort Myers.
The Hatters (10-7-1 overall) advanced to the semis in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 overtime win in the quarterfinals at Kennesaw State on Oct. 30. Sophomore Cornelia Sochor scored the game-winning goal less than four minutes into the first overtime period. Fellow sophomore Sarah Collins also scored a pair of goals for the Hatters.
Collins enters Friday's match looking to become Stetson's single-season goals leader. She tied Kristy Porcelli's (1999) record with her goals against the Owls last Friday, and currently ranks second in the A-Sun and tied for 25th nationally with 12.
Top-seeded FGCU (11-5-2) is seeking its second consecutive A-Sun Tournament title, and fourth in the last five years. The Eagles defeated Stetson, 6-1, on Oct. 24th in DeLand.
Friday's game will be streamed live and free on A-Sun.TV, and fans can also follow along by viewing live stats. Stetson's Twitter feed @StetsonWSoccer will also be providing in-game updates.
The Series
Friday's game is the 10th meeting in the series between Stetson and FGCU, with the Eagles holding an 8-1 advantage. FGCU handed Stetson a 6-1 defeat in the regular-season finale for both teams on Oct. 24 in DeLand.
