DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson Softball team continued to batter opposing pitchers in a pair of victories Friday in the first day of the Stetson Invitational at Patricia Wilson Field.
The Hatters (9-3) pounded out 10 runs on 10 hits in a 10-0 victory over Alabama A&M in the afternoon, then battled back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Colgate 12-3 in the nightcap.
Demi Meza and Kelsey Waters each hit home runs as the Hatters extended their winning streak to six.
Courtney Brandt (4-1) tossed her third consecutive shutout in game one. She allowed just three hits and one walk over five innings of work.
Chelsea Hostetler (5-2) earned her fifth win of the year in game two. She struck out a season-high nine batters in the seven-inning, complete game effort.
In game one, Stetson scored a run in tthe first, three in the second, and six in the fourth en route to the run-rule victory. Meza blasted her fifth home run of the year over the scoreboard in leftcenter field, and Waters followed with a solo shot that banged off the scoreboard. It was her fourth round tripper of the season.
Brittany Hawn, Jessie TenBroeck, and Meza each collected a pair of hits in the opener.
In game two, Stetson trailed 2-1 after three innings, but the Hatters scored four runs in the fourth, one in the sixth, and six in the seventh to bust the game open. Jazz Vasquez hit a bases loaded, three-run triple to highlight the attack.
Hawn added two more base knocks including an RBI double to give her four hits on the day. She also scored five runs.
Stetson has now scored over 100 runs on the season (104) in just 12 games. The Hatters are hitting .399 as a team.
Earlier in the day, Troy defeated Alabama State and Colgate to go 2-0 on the day as well.
Stetson will face Troy at 4 p.m. and Alabama State at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
