DeLand, Fla. -- The No. 10/11 Stetson sand volleyball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Eckerd by identical 5-0 scores Tuesday afternoon at the Stetson sand volleyball courts.

The Hatters won 20 of the 21 sets played and improved to 7-1 on the season, heading into the start of conference play this weekend.

"All of our pairs were very consistent today," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "Even if they got into little ruts they were able to get out of them quickly and pull out the set. We also had a lot of great play from some of our pairs as they really put pressure on Eckerd's defense, and they continued to be strong offensively. Overall, I was very happy with our showing today."

Stetson's No. 1 seed of Julie Bassett and Kaley Melville cruised to pair of 2-0 victories.  The duo won by scores of 21-6, 21-8, and 21-10, 21-5.

At the No. 2 seed, Maren Rygh and Kristin Lind won 2-0 (21-6, 21-12) in the first match, but had to work to the final point in the second match to win 2-1 (21-13, 18-21, 15-13) to remain undefeated on the season.

Stetson's No. 3 seed of Savannah Byl and Holly Reschke also remained perfect on the season with a pair of 2-0 wins.  Scores of the sets were 21-13, 21-18 and 21-13, 21-5.

At the No. 4 seed, Kaylee Anderson and Madison Akins also won in straight sets, 21-11, 21-9 and 21-16, 22-20.

The Hatters competed with two different No. 5 seeds.  In the first match, Madison Tormey and Stephanie Marin won 21-12, 22-20.  In the second match, Claudia Kalin and Erika White won by scores of 21-9, 21-14.

The Hatters will open up Atlantic Sun Conference play at 10 a.m. Friday at Florida Gulf Coast.
