Estero, Fla. -- The No. 10/11 Stetson sand volleyball team opened Atlantic Sun play with a doubleheader sweep at Florida Gulf Coast on Friday afternoon.

The Hatters won both matches by identical 4-1 scores to improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.  Stetson also extended its winning streak to seven.

FGCU fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in A-Sun play.

The Hatters' top four seeds each went 2-0 on the day, with each pairing winning in straight sets in both matches.

"I am excited to start conference play with two solid wins," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "Our 1-4 seeds did a great job of controlling each set with our tempo.  They were aggressive on offense and didn't allow many points on defense.  We needed to be a little more consistent at the 5 seed.  We have a tough week coming up, and we will continue working to improve."

At the No. 1 seed, Kaley Melville and Julie Bassett won 21-13, 21-13 and 21-10, 21-17.

At the No. 2 seed, Kristin Lind and Maren Rygh won 21-19, 21-7 and 21-14, 21-9.

At the No. 3 seed, Savannah Byl and Holly Reschke won 21-8, 21-9 and 21-8, 21-11.

At the No. 4 seed, Kaylee Anderson and Madison Akins won 21-12, 21-11 and 21-13, 21-16.

In the first match, Stetson's No. 5 seed of Madison Tormey and Stephanie Marin fell 21-15, 21-15.  In the second match, Claudia Kalin and Erika White fell 21-17, 21-18 at the No. 5 seed.

Stetson will continue A-Sun play with another doubleheader at Jacksonville on Wednesday.
