Siesta Key, Fla. -- In a battle of two Top 10 programs, third-ranked Florida International defeated ninth-ranked Stetson 4-1 Friday afternoon at Siesta Key Beach.

The Hatters (18-3) dropped just their third match of the year, and their first since March 29.

FIU improved to 18-1.

Stetson's lone win came at the No. 1 seed, as Kaley Melville and Julie Bassett defeated Anja Licka and Maryna Samoday 26-24 in the first set before the FIU pair withdrew due to injury in the second set.  It was Melville and Bassett's 18th dual match win in a row.

Stetson will compete in the Fiesta on Siesta Key pairs tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
