A pair of Stetson University sophomores were among 10 players from the Atlantic Sun Conference named to the league's 2015 Women's Golf All-Conference team.
Ocala native Kristine Odaiyar, who transferred to Stetson in December from UCF, earned first team honors while Giulia Vandenberg, a native of Haarlem, in The Netherlands, followed up on her fourth place finish in the recently completed A-Sun Championship by earning second team honors.
In addition to the two All-Conference selections, the Hatters also had a player named to the All-Freshman team. Carolin Schart, a native of Vilshofen, Germany, was a unanimous selection to the squad despite missing the A-Sun Championship due to illness.
Both the All-Conference and All-Freshman teams were selected in voting by the league's head coaches.
Jacksonville University senior Jessica Welch was named the league's Player of the Year while Kennesaw State's Henriette Nielsen was named the Freshman of the Year. KSU head coach Rhyll Brinsmead was selected as the league's Coach of the Year.
Odaiyar exploded onto the scene for the Hatters, earning league Player of the Week honors for her performance in the JU Amelia Island Collegiate. She finished tied for third in the rain-shortened event, which included a 68 in the first round.
She followed up with a 10th place at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic before a pair of 13th place finishes at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational and the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate. She tied for 20th at the A-Sun Championship and finished the spring with a 74.71 scoring average.
Vandenberg shined during the spring after having some difficulties during the fall season. Her best fall finish was a tie for 24th at the JU Classic in October. The spring, however, was a different story. She earned four top 10 finishes in five events and, for the one event she didn't have a top 10, the Panther Intercollegiate, she was named A-Sun Player of the Week.
In 14 spring rounds, all 14 finished between 71 and 77 and she had a 73.57 scoring average. For the year, she had a 75.96 scoring average, a better than three shot improvement over her freshman season.
Schart earned a pair of top 15 finishes during a season that was slowed considerably by illness. She withdrew from two events – the Golfweek Conference Challenge and the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational – because of illness and was unable to play at all in the conference championship tournament.
For the 15 rounds she was able to play, Schart showed great promise. She finished the team with a 75.67 scoring average and had just one round with a score of 80. Her best round came in the second round of the season-opening Golfweek Program Challenge when she had a one-under par 70.
