Jacksonville, Fla. -- The Stetson men's and women's cross country teams each placed fifth respectively at the season-opening UNF Cross Country Invitational at the UNF Golf Course.
The field featured teams from several Atlantic Sun schools and served as a preview race for the Atlantic Sun Championships, which will also be contested at UNF on Oct. 30.
Joe Beery led the Hatter men and finished 28th overall in the 8K race with a time of 28:06.94. Also for Stetson, Brendan Hessler placed 38th with a time of 29:28.18, Andrew Townes placed 41st with a time of 29:48.75, Matthew Babikow placed 47th with a time of 30:50.79, Ryan Hodgins placed 48th with a time of 30:58.71, Ricky Cupoli placed 50th with a time of 31:10.22, Ryan Newfrock placed 53rd with a time of 33:04.70, Austyn Finnk placed 54th with a time of 33:16.08, and Nick Nweeia 34:17.45.
A trio of runners led the Hatter women in the 5K race, finishing within two seconds of each other. Rachel Dumas led the pack with a mark of 20:11.12, followed by Rachel Frankenberger at 20:11.89 and Adrienne DeVita at 20:13.39. They placed 33rd through 35th, respectively.
Also for Stetson, Clarissa Consol placed 47th with a time of 20:38.03, Jessica Cosgrove placed 51st with a time of 20:41.04, Brianne Boldrin placed 53rd with a time of 20:47.05, Catherine Hessler placed 58th with a time of 21:04.46, Laurie Scott placed 59th with a time of 21:07.60, Malina Morales placed 67th with a time of 22:26.96, Daniella Godenzi placed 69th with a time of 22:31.91, Trixi Menge placed 73rd with a time of 23:39.96, and Maya Sherman placed 74th with a time of 24:57.31.
The Hatters will return to action next Saturday at the UCF Invitational in Orlando.
