DeLand, Fla. — Stetson University announced the addition of an NCAA Division I, distance-focused outdoor track program, expanding competitive opportunities for its men's and women's cross-country student-athletes. Competition will begin in the 2027 outdoor season.
The program builds upon the established foundation of Stetson's cross-country teams and formalizes a training model that has already included competition in spring track events. Kristin McWilliams, head coach of Stetson's men's and women's cross-country programs, will also serve as head coach for outdoor track, ensuring continuity in leadership and athlete development.
The distance-focused program will utilize existing resources. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to compete for ASUN Conference titles and qualify for NCAA postseason competition at the Division I level.
"This addition enhances the experience of our student-athletes and aligns with the training our cross-country programs have underway," said Director of Athletics Ricky Ray. "It provides a clear pathway to championship competition while maintaining our commitment to fiscal responsibility and provides a pathway to earning postseason opportunities."
The cross-country program set numerous school records in McWilliams' second season, and improved in the ASUN standings.
