Hatters Continue Momentum at Ed Holloway XC Classic

LAKELAND, Fla. — The Stetson Cross Country team continued its season this past Friday in Lakeland, Florida, competing in the Ed Holloway XC Classic hosted by Florida Southern.

The men's team opened the day in the 8K, where freshman Braden Motycka led the way for the Hatters, finishing 21st in 27:06. He was followed closely by fellow freshman Tanner Pritchard (23rd, 27:20) and sophomore Nicholas Zamora (25th, 27:25), who made his season debut. Freshman Parker Armstrong placed 27th in 27:30, while sophomore Haven Gronewold (42nd, 28:35) rounded out the team's top five. Freshman Troy Britton (46th, 29:06), sophomore Carlos Cerrud (49th, 29:48), and Tyler Pritchard (57th, 30:25) also competed for Stetson. The Hatters placed fifth overall with an average time of 27:35.

In the women's 6K, freshman Avery Sommers led the Hatters with a strong 15th-place finish, clocking in at 23:50. Graduate student Sofia Azzollini (30th, 25:32) and sophomore Kiley Summerlin (35th, 26:01) also turned in solid performances to round out Stetson's competitors on the women's side.

The Hatters will return to action on Thursday, October 31, at the ASUN Championship, hosted at the New World Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida. The women's 5K will begin at 7:45 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 8:15 a.m.
