Hatters Close Regular Season Friday at JU

Stetson women's soccer closes out the regular season this weekend when the Hatters visit Jacksonville, 7 p.m., Friday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app.

The Hatters (8-5-2 overall, 5-1-0) are still in the hunt for the Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season title and tournament No. 1 seed. If successful on Friday, the Hatters will need a win or tie by North Florida against FGCU on Saturday to capture the crown.

But first they'll need to defeat a JU team fighting for its post-season life. The Dolphins (3-10-1, 1-4-1) need a win on Friday and some help on Saturday as the rest of the league closes conference play. The Dolphins are currently seventh in the ASUN standings, trailing both NJIT and UNF by two points for the sixth and final tournament spot.

JU has lost four of its last five matches and is winless in its last five outings overall. JU's last victory was a 1-0 win over UNF on Sept. 24.

Stetson is looking to bounce back after its first loss in over a month after dropping a 2-1 decision on Monday in a showdown at FGCU. Freshman Florencia Baldassini scored her first career goal to lead the Hatters.

Friday's match will be the 24^th all-time meeting between Stetson and Jacksonville, with the Dolphins hold a 13-8-2 lead in the series … last season Stetson snapped a six-match winless streak against the Dolphins with a 2-1 overtime win in DeLand.

Regardless of result on Friday the Hatters are already guaranteed their highest conference finish since 2006 … Stetson can finish no lower than third in standings … the 2006 team finished second with a 7-1-1 conference mark … if the Hatters finish third they'll host an ASUN Tournament quarterfinal game next weekend … if Stetson finishes second the Hatters won't play until the semifinal round on Nov. 4 … if the Hatters finish first they'll host the ASUN Tournament semifinals and finals, Nov. 4 & 6.
