Hatters Fall in Five Sets at NJIT

Madison Akins Moves into Stetson's Top 10 Kills List

Newark, N.J. -- NJIT rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Stetson 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-11) Friday night at the Fleisher Center.

Madison Akins led the Hatters (4-24, 1-12 ASUN) with 12 kills and 14 digs for her third double-double of the season.  She now ranks 10th on Stetson's all-time kills list with 1082 kills.  Karmen Reivik also registered her third double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs.  Anna Bezhan added a season-high 11 kills to help the offensive effort.

Although Stetson hit just .135 for the match, the Hatters played well defensively with 74 digs and 13 blocks.  Joining Akins and Reivik with double digit dig totals were Marissa Salazar (14), Danielle Sink (12) and McKenna Foster (10).

Middle blockers Julie Varga and Shelby Connors each recorded six blocks, while Akins added five.  Akins also had three aces while Sink and Foster tallied two aces apiece.

Stetson has recorded 28 team blocks in its last two matches.

Tess Albyn led the Highlanders (11-21, 2-11) with 20 kills.

The Hatters will visit USC Upstate at 2 p.m. Sunday.
