Balanced Hatters Roll Past FIU, 82-67

DeLAND—Divine Myles, Derick Newton and Luke Doyle combined to score 56 points and Stetson made 15 3-pointers as the Hatters cruised to an 82-67 win over visiting FIU on Monday.

The Hatters (2-0) used an 18-6 run over the final 3:36 of the first half to erase a 23-22 FIU advantage and hold a 40-29 lead at halftime. Stetson then opened the final 20 minutes with 12-4 run to make it a 52-33 game. The Panthers (1-1) never threatened again.

Stetson's lead reached 20 points for the first time when B.J. Glasford made a short jumper with 11:11 left to make it 63-43. Stetson's largest lead was 24 when Brian Pegg's layup made it 75-51 with 6:54 to play.

Overall, the Hatters shot 55 percent for the game and connected on 15of 29 attempts from beyond the arc. Myles was 8 of 9 from the field and was joined in double figures by Newton (18) and Doyle (17). Newton and Doyle went a combined 10 for 14 from downtown.

Stetson forced the Panthers into 18 turnovers and converted those into 30 points. That more than made up for FIU's 52-percent shooting effort.

Eric Nottage led FIU with 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting.
