Cold Shooting Costs Hatters in Loss at UCF

ORLANDO—Five players scored in doubles figures for UCF and Stetson couldn't overcome a tough shooting night as the Knights eased to an 81-45 win over the Hatters, Wednesday at CFE Arena.

B.J. Taylor led UCF (5-1) with 18 points. Matt Williams (16), Tacko Fall (12), Chad Brown (12) and Tank Efianayi (10) also reached double figures for the Knights.

Derick Newton led Stetson with 15 points and B.J., Glasford enjoyed his second straight strong effort with 11 points and six rebounds.

The annual contest between former conference rivals slogged its way through a first half which at one point saw the teams combine to miss 21 of the game's first 26 shots. The Hatters (3-5) struggled to find any rhythm offensively in the first half, shooting just 6 of 34 (17.6 percent) from the field.

Stetson's defense limited the Knights to 39 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes, but its offensive struggles added up to a 36-19 halftime deficit.

UCF picked up the offensive pace in the second half, shooting 53 percent. The Hatters, however, continued to struggle from the field, making just 26.5 percent of their shots after the break. Stetson finished shooting 22 percent for the game.

The Knights shot nearly 47 percent for the game despite going just 5 of 21 from 3-point range. UCF owned a 54-36 rebounding advantage.

Quotable
"This game reminded me of East Carolina when we couldn't make a basket. I thought we were a little nervous. For some reason we were tense. These opportunities you get against a quality team like UCF, you've got to step up to the plate. We just didn't come out and play aggressive and with the confidence we should have." – Stetson head coach Corey Williams

Up Next
The Hatters return home for the first time in five games when they host Florida College, 1 p.m., Saturday.
