Hatters Fall 3-0 to Kennesaw State on Friday

Madison Akins leads with 13 kills

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson senior Madison Akins led all players with 13 kills but Kennesaw State came away with a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-21, 25-15) Friday night in an ASUN match at the Hollis Center.

The Hatters (4-22, 1-10 ASUN) hit a combined .268 in the first two sets but posted an .086 attack percentage in the final frame.  The Owls (16-9, 10-1) hit .398 for the match.

"We hit well in the first two sets, and I thought that we served very aggressively," head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "We had to clean up a few points here and there, so I was disappointed we kind of rolled into the third set and hit .086.  We have been talking to them about figuring out how to come back in the third set when we down 0-2 and be able to maintain what we are doing well and fix what we need to work on. There is often such a huge dip from what we were doing well that the game gets away from us quickly."

Akins hit .360 for the match (13-4-25), while Shelby Connors hit .615 (8-0-13).  Karmen Reivik dished out 29 assists, and McKenna Foster picked up nine digs.

Anaiah Boyer led KSU with 11 kills.

The Hatters will host Lipscomb at noon on Saturday.  Stetson will honor its four seniors - Akins, Foster, Tiffany Creamer and Marissa Salazar prior to their final home match.
