Hatters Strong Defensively in 3-1 Setback to Lipscomb

Blocking game leads the way on Senior Day

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson volleyball team recorded a season-high 15 blocks, including 10 by Shelby Connors, but visiting Lipscomb prevailed 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 25-14) in an ASUN match Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (4-23, 1-11 ASUN) honored their four seniors prior to the match: Madison Akins, Tiffany Creamer, McKenna Foster and Marissa Salazar.  Creamer also made her first game appearance since early in the 2014 season.

Stetson's second set was its finest as the team hit .344 (14-3-32) with six blocks.

For the match, Akins led the offense with 13 kills, adding seven digs and four blocks.  She recorded career dig No. 700 and career block No. 250 and was honored pregame with a ceremonial volleyball commemorating her 1000th career kill.  Foster notched seven kills of her own.

Connors had one solo block and nine assists to reach double digit blocks for the first time this season and second time in her career.  Julie Varga added five blocks for the Hatters, who collected 15 kills for the first time since Sept. 11, 2015 vs. Mercer (16).

Karmen Reivik led the team with 23 assists and three aces, while Danielle Sink picked up eight digs off the bench.

The Bisons (18-7, 10-2) hit .265 in the match, including .600 in the fourth set.  Carlyle Nusbaum led Lipscomb with 17 kills.

The Hatters will complete the regular season with road matches at NJIT and USC Upstate next weekend.
