Hatters Rally Falls Short at Campbell, 81-72

BUIES CREEK, N.C.—Campbell's Chris Clemons scored a game-high 22 points as the Camels held on for an 81-72 win over Stetson, Thursday at Gore Arena.
 
Clemons was 6 for 6 from the free throw line in the final 26 seconds to help the Camels (7-5) finish the game on a 10-0 run.
 
Stetson trailed by 14 points at halftime but the Hatters slowly chipped away at the deficit after the break. Stetson took its only lead of the second half when Angel Rivera's layup with 2:23 left made it 72-71. But the Hatters missed their last four shots from the field.
 
Campbell took control of the game midway through the first half as reserve guard Marcus Burk made four 3-pointers in a span of five minutes, helping turn a 23-19 lead into a 41-27 advantage for the Camels.
 
Stetson (6-8) trailed 43-29 at the break after shooting just 41 percent in the first half. The Hatters rebounded in the second half, shooting 48 percent in the final 20 minutes while also holding Campbell to 38 percent from the field.
 
Derick Newton led Stetson with 16 points and 11 rebounds, scoring 12 points in the second half. Rivera had 14 and Divine Myles finished with 13.

Derick Newton's double-double is his third of the season and 10th of his career … Newton's 11 rebounds tied a season and career high … Divine Myles moved into 31st place on Stetson's all-time scoring chart with 13 points (1,022) … Stetson was just 11 of 19 from the free throw line, compared to 19 of 22 for Campbell
