DeLand, Fla. -- In a battle of two Top 10 programs, ninth-ranked Stetson fell to fifth-ranked Hawaii 4-1 Friday morning on the campus of Stetson University.
The Hatters (15-3) bounced back to defeat Florida Atlantic 3-0 Friday night.
The two matches were part of the Stetson Beach Invitational, which continues Saturday at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts.
The FAU match was halted after Stetson won the decisive third point and will be completed on Saturday.
Stetson's top seed of Vendy Strakova and Sara Putt won 23-21, 21-15 against Hawaii's top pair of Lara Schreiber and Nikki Taylor to improve their pairs record to 17-0 on the season.
Against FAU, the Hatters got 2-0 wins from Kaylee Anderson and Emily Carroll at the 3 seed (21-19, 21-13) and by Madison Akins and Samantha Harris at the 4 seed (21-15, 21-14). At the 5 seed, Jamie Walsh and Alexa Richardson rallied late for a 2-1 (21-15, 20-22, 16-14) win.
The Hatters will host 10th-ranked FIU and fourth-ranked UCLA on Saturday.
