Miami Beach, Fla. -- The ninth-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the FIU Surf and Turf Invitational in Miami Beach, Fla.
The Hatters (17-5) defeated 18th-ranked Tulane 3-2 in the morning match but fell 4-1 to 20th-ranked Florida Atlantic in the afternoon.
In the first match, the Hatters opened the scoring with a 21-13, 21-15 win at the 3 seed by Emily Carroll and Kaylee Anderson. The Green Wave scored victories at the 2 seed and the 4 seed to grab a 2-1 lead in the match.
At the 1 seed, Stetson's Vendy Strakova and Sara Putt closed out a 21-19, 21-12 win to pull the Hatters even. The contest came down to the 5 seed, where Jamie Walsh and Alexa Richardson earned a three-set victory, 15-21, 21-11, 15-11, to secure the match for the Hatters.
It was Stetson's second win of the year over Tulane.
In the afternoon match, Stetson's lone victory came from Strakova and Putt at 1 seed, 21-16, 21-17. The Hatter duo improved their pairs record to a perfect 21-0 on the season.
The FIU Surf and Turf Invitational continues Saturday as the Hatters will take on Southern Cal at 9 a.m. and South Carolina at 1 p.m.
