Emerson, Ga. -- Stetson advanced to Sunday's Atlantic Sun Conference championship match with a 4-1 victory over FGCU Saturday afternoon in the A-Sun semifinals at LakePoint Sporting Community.
The Hatters (28-6) will face the winner of the loser's bracket semifinal between UNF and FGCU for a winner-take-all championship match at 3 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Saturday, the Hatters earned 2-0 victories at the 1, 2, 3, and 5 seeds.
"The team did great. They were really focused," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "We got out there in the first sets and played with a lot of energy. It just set the tone for the rest of the match."
At the 1 seed, Vendy Strakova and Sara Putt improved to 31-2 on the season with a 21-15, 21-14 victory. Kaylee Anderson and Emily Carroll won 21-17, 21-16 at the 2 seed. At the 3 seed, Kristin Lind and Tiffany Creamer won 21-18, 21-17.
Stetson's 4 seed of Madison Akins and Rachel Noble split their first two sets but fell 15-13 in the third set.
At the 5 seed, Jamie Walsh and Alexa Richardson won 21-11, 21-11 to extend their win streak to 12.
"All the pairs are playing really tough right now," Hernandez said. "It will be nice to not have to go through the loser's bracket and to have that rest before the championship match."
Stetson will be making its fourth straight appearance in the A-Sun final. After claiming the title in 2014 and 2015, the Hatters will be seeking their third championship in a row.
"No matter who we play, we have to stay aggressive," Hernandez said. "When playing with windy conditions you have to make sure that ball control and serving is maintained. We have handled it pretty well, and we will need to do that again tomorrow."
Notes: All three of Stetson's previous A-Sun finals have been decided by 3-2 scores ... Stetson is now 12-2 vs. FGCU and 9-1 in the last 10 postseason A-Sun matches.
