DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson University women's basketball head coach Lynn Bria announced the addition of Adriana Ellis (Orlando, Fla./Winter Springs HS) to the program for 2016-17. Ellis had verbally committed to Stetson for the 2017-18 season but has elected to graduate high school a year early and enroll at Stetson for the fall semester.
“Adriana has done a really good job staying on top of her academics, and that is a credit to her and her parents,” Bria said. “It was great that she had that option. It was her choice, and we supported whatever she wanted to do. It was a very good surprise.”
A 5-9 guard, Ellis helped lead Winter Springs High School to a 19-10 record and a Class 8A, District 2 championship this past year. She averaged nearly 15 points and five assists per game. She is rated a four-star recruit by ProspectsNation.com
Bria says Ellis can play at the point or slide to the 2 spot.
“Adriana is a really good-sized guard, and she shoots the ball well," Bria said. "Probably one of the best things about her is that she sees the game at such a high level. She makes some incredible passes, but she can also score. That combined with her size, makes her a really good addition for us."
Ellis joins Brittney Chambers, Kennedi Colclough, and Paloma Gragera as incoming student-athletes for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
Stetson went 20-12 in 2015-16 and made its sixth straight postseason appearance.
