Stetson Sculler Andrew Rouse has had a "Golden Summer" competing with Vesper Boat Club of famous boathouse row in Philadelphia. As most of the rowing world is now watching the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Andrew is returning to Stetson for his senior year with a lot of hardware to show for a great summer on the water.
In May, Andrew was deciding where to spend the summer and he made a great decision to head to Vesper for a chance to make some boats go fast. He did that in spades and is returning to Stetson as the MOST awarded Stetson rower of all time. Andrew worked very hard to make the lightweight team at Vesper and his hard work paid off with racing at four prestigious regattas during the summer and the U23 Men's Team Trials as well.
Andrew met many great new teammates and had many great experiences over the summer racing in various places across the country and of course an opportunity that did not become a reality was the results from the U23 World Team trials. But finishing only .14 seconds off first, and the chance to represent the USA in Rotterdam Netherlands will be a tough race but at 21 Andrew has two more years to make the National Team.
Stetson head coach Mark Wilson recalls his own personal experience at racing the U23 National Team 4x in 1993 and he is immensely proud of Andrew.
Coach Wilson enjoys calling Andrew the “Youngster” and the name is becoming less appropriate after a summer like this. Andrew is growing in maturity every day and he is excited to be returning to Stetson to help the next group of “Youngsters” make Stetson not only a great place to row, but a great place to win!
Andrew along with teammate Joey Jacobsen will be team captains this year and are anxiously anticipating the return of their teammates to DeLand and Lake Beresford.
