Hatters Drop Saturday Match to UCF

DeLAND--Sofia Ferding and Maja Salibasic earned singles victories for Stetson on Saturday but it wasn't enough as the Hatters suffered a 5-2 defeat to UCF at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

The Hatters (0-2) started play with a loss in doubles. UCF won matches at Nos. 1 and 2 as the Knights won the doubles point and gained a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.

UCF took a 2-0 lead with a victory at No. 5 singles before the Hatters got on the board. Ferding earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 to make it a 2-1 affair.

The Knights won the next two matches, clinching the victory with a win at No. 4. Salibasic capped the day for Stetson with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 3.

Stetson next faces Georgia Southern, 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 in DeLand.
