Hatters Triumph Over NJIT in FIve Sets

Stetson rallies for first ASUN win

DeLand, Fla. -- Trailing 2-1 in the match and 4-2 in the fifth set, Stetson rallied for a thrilling 3-2 victory over visiting NJIT in an ASUN match Friday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (2-14, 1-3 ASUN) won by scores of 25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, and 15-7 to grab their first conference win of the season.

Stetson's defense led the way, recording 73 digs and a season-high 14 blocks in the winning effort. The Hatters had four key blocks during the decisive 8-1 run in the fifth set. Shelby Connors tallied the game-winning kill.

Hao Jin led the offense with 15 kills and a .316 attack percentage. She also recorded one solo block and six block assists. Eva Deisa registered 13 kills and 10 digs for her third double-double of the year, and Connors finished with 10 kills and five blocks.

Setter Naina Ivanova filled the stat sheet with 45 assists, 13 digs, five blocks and two aces.

Chelcie Spence (20 digs) and Anna Bezhan (career-high 19 digs) posted big defensive totals as well.

Stetson outhit NJIT (9-10, 1-3) .218 to .177.

The Hatters will look for a weekend sweep when they host USC Upstate at 6 p.m. Saturday.
