Hatters Edged by USF

Stetson's Divine Myles scored a game-high 20 points but the Hatters couldn't overcome an 11-point halftime deficit as USF escaped Edmunds Center with a 75-72 win on Wednesday.

After trailing 41-30 at halftime, the Hatters methodically clawed their way back into the game as Myles scored 16 points after the break.

The Hatters (2-1) trailed 68-62 with 5:23 to play before five straight points from Myles made it 68-67 with 4:33 to go. A basket by USF's Tulio Da Silva gave the Bulls a 70-67 lead, but Luke Doyle tied the game with a three-pointer from the right corner with 3:55 left.

A layup by USF's Stephan Jiggetts made it 72-70, and Myles responded with a bucket of his own to knot the game at 72 with 2:46 to play.

After another Da Silva basket made it 74-72 with 2:22 to go, the Hatters had ample opportunity to tie or take the lead but they came up empty on four straight offensive possessions as USF was also coming up empty on its end.

Da Silva made one of two free throws with 1.4 seconds to play to seal the win.

Myles finished 8 of 12 from the field with one three pointer and made all three of his free throws. The senior added six assists and a pair of steals. Doyle scored 17 and B.J. Glasford chipped in with 12.

Payton Banks led USF (2-1) with 18.

The Hatters return to action when they host SIU Edwardsville, 1 p.m., Saturday.
