Hatters Fall Just Short at Fort Wayne

Divine Myles led four players in double figures with a team-high 25 points but the Hatters were unable to make a 7-point halftime lead hold up as Fort Wayne rallied for an 88-84 win, Saturday at Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Despite a 42-13 advantage in bench scoring and an incredible rally at the end of the first half, the Hatters (7-6) couldn't secure their fifth road win of the year. Abayomi Iyiola scored 17, while Christiaan Jones had 12 and B.J. Glasford chipped in with 11 for Stetson.

Stetson trailed 35-28 with 5:21 left in the first half, but closed the half on a 19-4 run and took a 47-40 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Mastodons (7-5), however, opened the second half with their own 19-4 run and led 59-51 with 13:28 to go.

From there it was a back-and-forth affair. Stetson twice regained the lead but never for more than one possession.

The Hatters closed to within 74-73 on a Jones 3-pointer with 5:24 to go, and a Myles layup capped a 6-0 spurt which pulled Stetson to within 85-84 with 42 seconds left. But Stetson never got any closer.

Myles finished the game 8 of 11 from the field with a 3-pointer, and was perfect on all eight of his free throw attempts. Iyiola also grabbed six rebounds in addition to his best scoring effort since the season-opener.

Fort Wayne's Bryson Scott scored a game-high 34 points.

The Hatters next host UCF, 6 p.m., Tuesday, at Edmunds Center.
