Hatters Welcome Florida National on New Year's Day

Stetson men's basketball celebrates the New Year when the Hatters host Florida National, 1 p.m., Monday at Edmunds Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and can be heard locally on WSBB AM 1230 and 1490.
 
The Hatters (7-8) and Conquistadors (13-6) are meeting for the first time. This is the final non-conference tune-up for the Hatters before they open ASUN Conference play on Saturday at FGCU.
 
Stetson turned in an impressive performance in its last outing, taking Big Ten foe Nebraska to the wire before falling, 71-62. Divine Myles scored a game-high 17 points, while Abayomi Iyiola added 15 and nine rebounds, and Luke Doyle chipped in 12 points.
 
The Hatters limited the Huskers to 34.9 percent shooting, the lowest figure for a Stetson Division I opponent this season.
 
Florida National was an 84-69 winner over Emmanuel (Mass.) College in its last outing.

News & Notes
•Today's game is the first meeting between the schools. Florida National is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, and the school is located in Hialeah.
•FNU is playing the third of four game against NCAA Division I competition today when they lace the Hatters. The Conquistadors have already faced FIU and Jacksonville, and will square off with North Florida on Tuesday.
•Stetson has won its last 15 games against non-Division I opponents
•Divine Myles moved into fifth place on Stetson's career scoring list in last Friday's loss at Nebraska. His 17-point effort against the Huskers gives him 1,567 career points, moving him past Ron Beal, who scored 1,559 points from 1968-72.
•Luke Doyle reached double figures for the first time in five games. He made a pair of three-pointers after going a combined 0-12 from beyond the arc in his previous three games.
•Nebraska's .349 field-goal percentage was the lowest for a Stetson Division I opponent this season
•Stetson's reserves scored 22 points at Nebraska, the sixth straight game with 20 or more off the bench
