Hatters Hope To Bounce Back in Tilt at Marist

Poughkeepsie, NY – No strangers in the gridiron, Pioneer Football League foes Stetson and Marist will square off on the hardwood for just the second time on Saturday afternoon.

The game at Marist's McCann Arena is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start and will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The Hatters (6-5) and hoping to bounce back from their loss at Duquesne on Wednesday night and go into finals next week with the positive feeling that only a win brings.

After starting the season with six consecutive losses, the Red Foxes (2-7) have won two of their last three games. Marist downed Colgate 78-76 on Wednesday despite coughing up a 19-point second half lead. The Red Foxes actually fell behind the Raiders, briefly, before regaining the edge and holding on for the win.

Stetson had no such luck on Wednesday in a 73-59 loss at Duquesne. The Hatters didn't score for almost five minutes to start the game and trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half. Fueled by senior Divine Myles, the Hatters closed to within nine early in the second half, but were never able to close the gap further.

Myles enters play on Saturday ranked second in the ASUN in scoring, averaging 17 points per game. He is just five points away from becoming the 40th player in league history to score 1,500 career points. Myles currently ranks eighth on the Stetson career list and, at his current scoring average, he is on pace to become the all-time leading scorer in Stetson history.

Following the game at Marist, the Hatters will be off for finals before hitting the road again next Saturday for a game at Fort Wayne (6-4). The Mastadons take on Miami (Ohio) on Saturday before also taking a break for finals. They return with games against the Hatters and then at Indiana within a three-day stretch.

Series Notes

  • Stetson defeated Marist 59-57 in the opening round of the 1984 Hatter Classic. The Hatters downed ETSU 65-55 to win the event the next day.
  • The last time a Stetson squad faced a team from the MAAC in basketball was the 1991-92 season when the Hatters took a 105-102 loss in overtime against Iona at the Edmunds Center.
  • Overall, Stetson has a 7-8 record against teams from the MAAC, with six of those games coming against Saint Peter's (3-3).

Hatter Notes

  • In his last five outings, Myles has scored 103 points to move into eighth place on the Stetson career-scoring chart with 1,495 points.
  • Senior guard Angel Rivera is just four assists from becoming the fourth player in school history, and 15th in ASUN history, with 500 in his career. He needs 32 assists to set the Stetson career mark, surpassing Frank Ireland's career total of 526.
  • The Hatters' primary struggles over the last five games have come at the free-throw line. During that stretch Stetson has hit just 23-of-48 from the stripe, or 47.9 percent.
  • Over that same stretch of woes from the line the Hatters have hit 44 percent (44-100) from beyond the 3-point arc and 48.6 percent (104-214) from inside the arc.
