Hatters Fall to ASUN Leader Lipscomb, 97-85

DeLAND—Stetson's Luke Doyle scored a game-high 21 points but Atlantic Sun Conference co-leader Lipscomb shot 68 percent in the second half on the way to a 97-85 win, Saturday at Edmunds Center.

Doyle was 7 of 10 from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Divine Myles and Derick Newton each scored 17, while Angel Rivera and Larry Dennis had 11 apiece.

Stetson was the aggressor early on but Lipscomb used its offensive might to push out to a 33-23 lead with 7:45 left in the first half. Stetson rallied to take a brief lead, at 46-44, before the Hatters and Bisons settled for a 48-48 tie at halftime.

Lipscomb (17-11 overall, 9-2 ASUN) broke the tie by opening the second half with a 15-4 run and led 63-52 with 15:53 to play. The Hatters (10-18, 2-9) never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Both teams shot well, with the Bisons shooting 57 percent for the game while Stetson converted at a 53 percent clip. Garrison Matthews led four Bisons in double figures with 20 points.

Quotable
"I really wanted to win this game for Brian Pegg. He's meant so much to our program. This has been a tough year for him because of the injuries so I certainly wanted to get him a win in his last game in the Edmunds Center. But I'm awfully proud of everything he stands for." – Stetson head coach Corey Williams
