While it wasn't quite a wire-to-wire win, the Hatters took control of the game early on and never really looked back. Stetson built a 32-19 advantagewith 4:07 left in the first half, and led 39-30 at halftime.

The Hatters opened the second half with a 10-2 run and led 49-32 on a Brian Pegg layup with 16:36 to play.

After Stetson built a 60-39 lead, the Spartans managed to hold the Hatters without a field goal for nearly five minutes, but managed only to get within 10 points, 61-51. Stetson was able to push the lead up to as many as 16 points when another Pegg layup made it 67-51 with 5:55 to go.

Upstate never got the lead under 10, and Stetson made 11 of 12 free throws in the final 2:32 to seal the win.

Derick Newton (16) and Leo Goodman (11) joined Myles in double figures for Stetson. Michael Buchanan led the Spartans with 21 points.

Quotable
"I thought defensively we did a good job. Our guys played really hard. We put a zone in this week and responded well to it. Throughout the year we've struggled (defensively). We've scored enough points to win a lot more games. We wanted to energize our guys as we move toward conference tournament play, and we wanted to do something a little bit different. It suits our players well. We needed this game. On the road, against a tough opponent… it's a good win." – Stetson head coach Corey Williams
