Pegg Named ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Stetson's Brian Pegg has been named 2017 ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's basketball, the league office announced on Friday. Voting was conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors.

Pegg, a graduate student currently pursuing his MBA, is the second Hatter to be so honored since the award's inception, joining his brother, Adam, who was the award's first recipient in 2013.

Now a three-time member of the ASUN All-Academic team, Pegg holds a 3.835 grade-point average in his graduate studies. He graduated last May with a degree in Finance.

On the court, Pegg has dealt with a slew of injuries this season but has still managed to produce 7.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 20 games. He went over the 1,000-point career mark earlier this month, and he enters the postseason ranked 6th all-time at Stetson with 763 rebounds.

Academic honors are nothing new for Pegg. In 2015 he was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District team, and he was previously voted to the ASUN All-Academic team in 2015 and 2016.

Over the course of his athletic career, Pegg has averaged 9.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He set a school record last season with 18 double-doubles. His 332 rebounds last season are the third-highest mark in program history, and the most in Stetson's 46-year Division I history.
