Myles' Career Night Not Enough as Kennesaw State Escapes With a Win

DeLAND—Stetson's Divine Myles scored a career-high 30 points but the Hatters couldn't overcome an 18-point deficit as Kennesaw State escaped the Edmunds Center with a 92-85 win in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Monday.

Myles was 12 of 20 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, and 4 of 7 from the free throw line as he reached the 30-point mark for the first time in his career. The junior scored 24 points in the second half but it wasn't enough to get Stetson (10-17 overall, 2-8 ASUN) a win.

Down 43-31 at halftime, the Hatters fell behind by 18 points when the Owls (12-14, 6-4) opened the second half with seven straight points. Trailing 50-31 with 18:00 to play, the Hatters slowly chipped away at the Kennesaw lead, making several runs to get back in the game.

Stetson went on a 15-4 run over the next 3:37, getting to within 54-46 on a B.J. Glasford jumper with 14:23 to play. The Owls eventually pushed the lead back to 13 points at 59-46, but Myles scored eight of Stetson's next 11 points as the Hatters closed to 59-57 with 10:04 left.

Kennesaw State was able to keep the Hatters at an arm's length for the next several minutes before another surge helped Stetson tie the game on consecutive possessions. Myles made a three-pointer with 4:23 to go to make it a 74-74 game and, after a pair of Tyler Hooker free throws on the other end, Derick Newton's jumper with 3:46 to play tied it up for the last time at 76.

A three-point play by Aubrey Williams and a breakaway layup by James Scott gave the Owls an 81-76 lead with 2:25 to go, and Kennesaw made six free throws in the final 1:14 to seal the win.

Scott – a freshman starting in place of Owls' injured leading scorer Kendrick Ray (21.7) – scored a career-high 33 points. He made 11 of 19 shots from the field and was 9 of 11 from the free throw line. Williams finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Newton and Leo Goodman joined Myles in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

News & Notes
Myles' previous career-high of 29 happened just eight days ago at Bethune-Cookman … the junior guard played all 40 minutes for the second time in three games … the Hatters were just 18 of 33 from the free throw line while Kennesaw State was 23 of 36 ... Angel Rivera returned after missing the two previous games with an injury.

Quotable
"We came out in the second half and started to fight. Offensively, Divine did about as good a job as he could possibly do to get us back in the game. We had a chance to get a lead late in the game and just couldn't quite get over the threshold. When you dig a deep hole like that and have to climb out you spend all that energy trying to catch back up and then once you get there you don't have enough to finish off the game." – Stetson head coach Corey Williams
