Bottom of Lineup Leads Hatters Past Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Stetson women's tennis closed out the non-conference portion on its spring schedule with a 5-2 win over country rival Bethune-Cookman, Saturday at City Island Park.
 
The bottom portion of Stetson's lineup dominated the Wildcats (5-8), combing with a strong doubles performance for a convincing team win.
 
Stetson (3-10) earned the doubles point as the teams of Sofia Ferding & Lucie Renault and Isabella Fernandez & Alexe Viaud emerged victorious to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead.
 
Bethune-Cookman won the top two singles match, with both victories coming in three sets. But Stetson's 2-6 players each posted decisive wins to give the Hatters a victory.
 
Renault earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3, while Fernandez gained a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.
 
Ferding secured a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5, and Danielle Peele rounded out Stetson's dominance with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.
 
The Hatters next open Atlantic Sun Conference play against FGCU, 4 p.m., Thursday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
