Hatters Host Seton Hall For Two-Game Mid-Week Series

Sophomore Jacob Koos has reached base safely in 10 consecutive games for the Hatters.
The Stetson Hatters will return to action at Melching Field tonight, opening a two-game series against Seton Hall.

Tuesday's game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. Wednesday's game has been moved to a 3 p.m. start in order to allow Hatters fans to attend both the baseball game and the Stetson women's basketball ASUN Tournament semifinal game against Kennesaw State at the Edmunds Center. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.

The Hatters (5-7) will be looking to bounce back after a pair of tough, late-inning, losses over the weekend in the Westin Lake Mary Stetson Invitational. Stetson was tied against both Connecticut and Western Michigan going into the late innings, only to see both opponents have big offensive frames against the Hatters' bullpen.

With those two losses, the Hatters will be making their third attempt to post all-time victory No. 2,000 in the game on Tuesday.

Stetson will send freshman left-hander Austin Bogart (0-0, 8.44) to the mound for his second start of the year. The Hatters' two-way player is hitting .265 on the year and leads the team with two home runs and is tied for the team lead with nine RBI.

In his start last week against Bethune-Cookman he held the Wildcats to one run on one hit over four innings of work. He also had two hits in that game, including his second homer, scored three runs and drove in four.

Seton Hall (4-6) comes in after losing two of three games in a tournament in Pensacola over the weekend. The Pirates lost to Troy and Southeastern Louisiana before topping South Alabama on Sunday. Seton Hall has also split four games with Michigan, lost to Tennessee and Oregon and earned a win over San Diego State. That slate has the Pirated ranked No. 38 in RPI entering play this week.

Sophomore right-hander Billy Layne, Jr., will make his first collegiate start in the game for the Pirates. After not playing last year, Layne allowed five runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out in his Seton Hall debut on Feb. 18 against Michigan.

The two games against Seton Hall this week will be the first meetings for the programs since the 1982 season. The Hatters and Pirates have split four games in the all-time series.

The Hatters will venture onto the road this weekend for a three-game series in Charleston, SC, against The Citadel starting Friday night at 6 p.m.
