Ferding, Renault Win But Hatters Fall to UNCW

DeLAND—Stetson freshmen Sofia Ferding and Lucie Renault picked up singles victories but UNCW pulled out a 5-2 team win, Tuesday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

Four singles matches went to a third set, but the Hatters were only able to capture one as the Seahawks left town with a win.

The Hatters (1-10) suffered a pair of losses in doubles play to start the day, as the Seahawks (5-3) grabbed an early 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.

UNCW and Stetson split the first two singles matches, with Renault earning a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3. The Seahawks clinched the team victory with wins at Nos. 2 and 6.

Stetson got back on the board when Ferding pulled out a three-set win at No. 4, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The Hatters return to action when they host Eastern Kentucky, 2:30 p.m., Monday, March 13.
