Hatters Win Twice on Saturday; Earn Victory No. 100

Stetson now 4-0 in ASUN Play

Jacksonville, Fla. -- The Stetson beach volleyball team earned its 100th victory in program history with a 4-1 win over UNF Saturday morning at Dolphin Beach. The Hatters wasted no time getting started on the next hundred, sweeping Jacksonville by a 5-0 margin in the afternoon.

Stetson completed opening weekend in conference play with a perfect 4-0 mark. The ninth-ranked Hatters are now 11-10 overall on the season.

"I think we came in really focused," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "I think we dropped only one team match the whole day, but I just thought we played really aggressively and set the tempo for the games. I feel like we are playing really strong 1 through 5, and I am glad to be able to see us play that way for four straight games this weekend."

The Hatters benefited from several long scoring runs to start sets. Tiffany Creamer and Lauren Durham had a 6-0 run to start against Jacksonville, Emily Carroll and Kaylee Anderson had a 7-0 start against JU, and Creamer and Rachel Noble had a 9-0 run to start the second set against UNF.

Stetson won 19 of 21 sets on the day and 19 of the 20 matches on the weekend.

"Everybody is really competitive, but also being really supportive of each other, and just playing really strongly as a complete unit right now," Hernandez said.

After the weekend sweep, the team celebrated with a plunge into the Jacksonville University pool.

The Hatters return home next weekend to face Mercer and Coastal Carolina at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts.
