Hatters Capture ASUN Regular Season Title

Stetson Completes Perfect 10-0 Conference Slate

Estero, Fla. -- Stetson completed a perfect 10-0 record in conference play and captured the ASUN regular season championship with a pair of victories over Florida Gulf Coast at Estero Community Park on Wednesday.

The Hatters (17-10, 10-0) won 4-1 in the first match and 5-0 in second match and earned the No. 1 seed for next week's ASUN Championship in DeLand.

"It is huge. It was one of big team goals for the year," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "I don't think we dropped any sets today. Eveything was (a win) in two, so I am glad to see us playing so well right now."

Stetson's one loss on the day came via injury withdrawl at the 1 seed. As a result, Stetson's 2-5 seeds each moved up a slot in the second match, while Julie Varga and Lauren Durham stepped in at the 5 seed. All five pairs came away with 2-0 victories in the match.

"We unfortunately had an injury and had to move our entire line-up," Hernandez said. "I think the team responded really well and just adapted really quickly. I am glad we could control our side and not worrying about other factors."

Emily Carroll and Kaylee Anderson won two sets in extra points Wednesday. The pair staved off seven set points in a 31-29 victory in the first match, and they staved off three more set points in a 24-22 win in the second match.

Kristin Lind and Darby Dunn won once at the 2 seed and once at the 1 seed to improve to 10-0 as a pair in ASUN play. Tiffany Creamer and Rachel Noble (9-0) and Sunniva Helland-Hansen and Carly Perales (7-0) also went undefeated in ASUN play.

It is the third year in a row Stetson has won at least a share of the ASUN regular season title.

The Hatters will face three ranked teams on Friday in Tallahassee. Stetson will meet No. 2 Pepperdine at 10 a.m., No. 14 FIU at 1 p.m., and No. 10 Grand Canyon and 5 p.m. Check the beach volleyball schedule for links to live scoring.
