Hatters Edged by NJIT

DeLAND—NJIT edged Stetson, 4-3, in an Atlantic Sun Conference women's tennis match, Thursday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
The Hatters (5-13 overall, 2-3 ASUN) saw their two-game winning streak end with the loss. NJIT improves to 6-10 and 3-1.
 
Stetson dropped the doubles point and fell behind early as the Highlanders grabbed a 1-0 lead.
 
NJIT won singles matches at Nos. 4 and 5 for a 3-0 lead, but Stetson finally got on the board when Alexe Viaud secured a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6. The Highlanders, however, clinched the match with a win No. 2.
 
Arijana Korac won her match at No. 1 (6-4, 7-6 [9-7]), and Lucie Renault closed out the night on a high note for the Hatters with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3.
 
Stetson closes out the regular season when the Hatters host USC Upstate, 6 p.m., Saturday. Seniors Isabella Fernandez, Brittany Hill and Maja Salibasic will be honored in pre-match ceremonies.
